- Choreographed by the renowned Kumu Keali'i Reichel and performed by the Seabury Dance Ensemble 2007-2008. This piece is a hula noho, or sitting hula, dedicated to Kumu Keali'i's mother. He taught it to the ensemble in Maui in 2007. Posted for audition purposes, that's why it zooms in on me a good chunk of the time. PLEASE: Do not repost without permission if you are not one of the dancers in the video. I've found a couple people who have reposted this on various sites already.
For the negative comments and criticism...give these
girls a break! They are not professional Hula dancers, but the fact that Keali’i himself taught the dance, just shows that he wants to spread the Aloha, and the Hawaiian culture. So do yourself a favor, do the same thing, appreciate the fact that these girls are given the gift of Aloha, and just be happy that they are sharing it and embracing, even if they are not professional Hula dancers, even if they are not Hawaiian and even if they are not in Hawaii, That’s Aloha! That’s LOVE! Get over it:)
The hula such a beautiful dance form!
Thank you very much-- We were very lucky to have him teach it to us. I think he was there for the majority of our performances...
@abbotsford911 don't worry about being sure about this performance because you're not qualified to critique it :) the hula noho style predates your "ballet hands" by several centuries. this may not be the best representation, but our dances are not purely for performance value, each posture and movement has meaning and traditional basis that you can't be expected to appreciate :)
Where are r hey now? What was audition for?
Aw, thank you so much :)
This Hula is absotutely beautiful!
Great Job, Noelani and company! Our six year old daughter is also named Noelani.
Great song sung and great choreography by Ke'a'li'i Reichel, and great dancing by the girls/women in the group.
So graceful, so beautiful, so mezmerizing!
It is wonderful how human beings can move that gracefully, and how the blending of song and dance of this caliber can be another one of life's beautiful experiences!
Mahalo!
Maui no ka oi!

nice work girls. great presentation. thanks for sharing.
Is this in hawaii? The hand movements is kinda off. Lol
At least their trying. I dance hula myself and was taught by my grandmother and danced in a halau. We praise anyone who puts our culture out there and willing to learn
excellent staging, beautiful smiles, not so sure about the ballet hands vs. hawaiian hands and the legs appart, though.
Maika'i no!!!!!!
